All competitors in the water on a photogenic morning
The open sea swim starts…
with a jump off the end of Eastbourne’s historic pier, one of the most iconic starts on the triathlon calendar.
Exiting the swim on the way to transition to collect the bike
After a 2.4 mile swim in the open sea…
Luckily the sea was kind and beautifully calm.

On the Marathon section, after cycling 112 miles on the road out of Eastbourne, then quiet country lanes, and back to Eastbourne via Beachy Head
Just over 14 hours after jumping off Eastbourne pier at 5:50am, Rachel crossed the finish line.
After completing
2.4 miles swim
112 miles cycle
26.2 miles run
… and how did Rachel do?
A winner!
Joe Townsend, former commonwealth para triathlon champion presenting her with the award for winner of female 45-49 years category for the full distance event.
Congratulations, Rachel!
All that training was worth it. Not bad for a first effort at a long distance Triathlon!
We have a plan to run the Hagley route next Monday (21st June). This is a classic run over the North Worcestershire Hills, best undertaken at this time of year when we’ve got maximum day length. Have a look at Simon’s post to see the route: https://www.relive.cc/view/v1vjegQN3Yq When? Suggest we assemble at the club for 6:45pm, in order to depart for the Hagley start by no later than 7pm. (Last time we ran it, gently, it took 2½ hours). Where? Lifts needed from other halves, offspring or other runners. Please drop off at the corner of Hall Lane and Hall Drive, Hagley (postcode DY9 9LH, or what3words teach.tall.will), where a small gate leads into a footpath into fields and the hills. Route? a pretty route over the Hagley, Waseley and Lickey Hills. The running is relieved by steady levels, downhills and wonderful views as well as a number of stiff climbs. Who? We are looking for a couple of run leaders to coordinate and arrange for each group. It caused a bit of mirth, but this is the point I say I’ll be away and won’t be able to run it, unfortunately. Richard
From Richard D. – Just a few days to go before we can resume club running! Monday March 29th sees the removal of the “stay at home“ restriction, and group exercise and activity can take place, including running, initially in groups of no more than 6.
So we will restart club running at 8pm on the 29th. As with last year, some protocols need to be followed to keep each other safe. In summary: Before the run: Don’t come if you have symptoms, or have not renewed your subscriptions (the club would not be covered by EA insurance).
Remain distanced and assemble in groups in the club car park. Listen in to briefing on route and precautions by run leader. (This is the trickiest time for distancing, please afford space to other runners and in particular any other sports club members accessing and leaving the club).
During the run: maintain strict social distancing throughout, between yourselves, other runners, riders and public.
After the run: Please disperse quickly and safely. If in any doubt, err on the side of caution and wait a few weeks. Hope to see you Monday!
From Richard D Monday 7th December will see the resumption of organised club runs again, as we emerge from lockdown. The Tier 2 arrangements bring good news and bad news. The good news is that for an organised group, the Rule of 6 no longer applies, so we can run in our natural groups 1, 2, 3 etc. However we are advised not to cross tier areas, so Cofton Park and Rubery are off-limits for the Monday nights for the foreseeable future. As previously, please adhere to our risk mitigations, in summary: Before the run: Don’t attend if you have symptoms. Remain distanced and assemble in groups in the club car park. Group in small groups and listen in to briefing on route and precautions by run leader. During the run: maintain strict social distancing throughout, between yourselves, other runners, riders and public. After the run: Please disperse quickly and safely. If in any doubt, err on the side of caution and wait a few weeks.
As you know, COVID restrictions are being eased for general life, and in relation to running we now have guidance from England Athletics about resumption of club running in groups of no more than 6, as well as our own guidance and risk assessment. Run leaders undertook a trial on Monday, and it worked well.
So we will restart club running at 8pm on Mondays. Please see the email which will be sent out for more detail, which sets out the strict protocols we need to keep each other safe. In summary:
Before the run: Don’t come if you have symptoms, or have not renewed your subscriptions (the club would not be covered by EA insurance). Remain distanced and assemble in groups in the club car park. Group in small groups and listen in to briefing on route and precautions by run leader.

The idea is that you run/ride to the Weighbridge in time for a curry at ~8.30 pm. Groups are free to self-organise and take shorter or longer routes with different start-times as appropriate. There will definitely be a group of Chuggers leaving the club at 7.30.
Cyclist are meeting at 7pm.
There are shorter and flatter routes to suit all abilities, so all club members are welcome to participate. Most runners get the train back to Barnt Green as the Weighbridge is very close to Alvechurch Station.
The club will pay for the cost of the curry for fully paid-up members. For catering purposes, please mail me as well as for any dietary restrictions (vegetarian option already provided)
The Series has been a popular choice in recent years for those who want to push themselves a bit harder – but also to enjoy some great multi-terrain runs in Hagley, Redditch, Droitwich and Clent countryside.

Great 6K Run with the ‘Up and Running’ Group 1 last night. Still going strong through the winter. Well done all.
Also last night, another one of our members, on their normal Monday evening club run, has just gone through one thousand miles run in 2017! Well done, Richard. You have joined Andy Scarle and Simon Richards in running over 1000 miles in a year.
